Produced and presented by Shift Theatre
The Boy in the Ocean is a raw and intimate new play exploring the aftermath of sexual assault through fragmented memory, movement, and storytelling. Performed primarily as a one-person piece and supported by a movement ensemble, the play follows a young man attempting to make sense of his memories and navigate what comes after trauma.
Blending naturalistic dialogue with physical theatre, the piece moves between past and present, reflecting the often disjointed reality of memory and healing.
Developed from personal experience, and taking inspiration from other true stories, the play approaches difficult subject matter with honesty, contributing to conversations around male experiences of sexual assault that are often underrepresented on stage.
