HELD is a psychological thriller that explores power, identity, memory and the stories we tell to survive.
When Chinese playwright Leanne is summoned for questioning by two government officials from her home country, she expects intimidation - not imprisonment. Instead, she is confined and ordered to write a book under constant surveillance. Through interrogations, fabricated memories, shifting identities and unsettling acts of intimacy, Leanne and her interrogators become entangled in a dangerous game where storytelling itself becomes both a weapon and refuge.
As reality fractures and loyalties blur, the play asks who controls the narrative - and at what cost. Blending political suspense with psychological drama, HELD is an unsettling examination of state power, artistic freedom, coercion, and the fragile humanity that persists even within systems built to erase it.
Tickets are £3 with an optional donation at checkout.
New Stuff usually finishes at approximately 8pm, but we welcome all to join us for continued conversations in the bar downstairs.
Tickets are strictly limited, so booking in advance is highly recommended. Please note that the event takes place in one of our studio spaces, which is only accessible up a spiral staircase.
