About the performance
There comes a moment in life when each of us must look into the mirror and face our own reflection.
But how ready are we to truly confront what we see?
And what happens when the shadows of others blur the image before us?
Mirrors is a deeply human and profoundly timely play about the truth of existence - a lyrical yet powerful exploration of the essence of life.
Three women, in three different cities:
in New York, Linda Anderson, a bank employee;
in Thessaloniki, Corinna Papadaki, an office worker;
and in Rome, Malena Conti, a lyrical mezzo-soprano.
Each stands before the dead end of an unfulfilled and empty life.
Time, memory, and the fragile balances of their personalities reveal that those who once defined them are now nothing more than shadows in the mirror of their souls.
Through a painful yet liberating journey, the three heroines reach a place of redemption.
They find the strength to shed everything that distorts their reflection.
Mirrors illuminate - with both grace and intensity - the fragments of memory we consciously or unconsciously push toward oblivion.
For the closer one dares to approach their own mirror, the more dangerous and courageous the journey becomes.
Author's note
Mirrors was written as an intimate conversation between what we reveal and what we conceal. The play explores the inner landscapes of women whose voices have been muted, distorted, or dismissed sometimes by others, sometimes by themselves. Each character stands before her own reflection, confronting the fractures, silences, and memories that shaped her. Through monologues, fugue, and the echo of breaking glass, the play seeks not to offer solutions but to illuminate the moment when truth insists on being spoken.
Mirrors is, above all, a work about courage: the courage to name pain, to reclaim one's story, and to recognize that healing often begins in the quietest, most vulnerable spaces. It is dedicated to every woman who has ever questioned her worth, her voice, or her place in the world and to the possibility of seeing ourselves, at last, clearly.
Why Mirrors Matters
Mirrors is a contemporary Greek play that explores themes such as domestic violence, loneliness, female identity, and the struggle for self-awareness. Through monologues, dialogues, and choreographed fugues, the characters unveil fractured realities, women whose stories echo across centuries and transcend cultures.
The play is both poetic and profoundly realistic, blending silence with soundscapes and visual metaphors such as the shattering of mirrors. It does not merely recount individual stories but creates a space for introspection, awareness, and dialogue around the urgent issue of violence against women.
By presenting Mirrors in collaboration with cultural organizations in New York and the United Kingdom, our aim is to raise awareness, foster solidarity, and support initiatives that protect and empower survivors of violence.
Mirrors is proud to be supporting Refuge with this performance. 30% of precedes will be donated to Refuge charity
Refuge Overview & Mission
Refuge is the largest single provider of specialist services to survivors of domestic, sexual and gender-based abuse. At Refuge, we campaign for changes in attitudes and laws, and for the safety of women and children.
Refuge operates the 24/7 National Domestic Abuse Helpline, offering vital support to women and children escaping abuse. We provide safe emergency accommodation through 65 refuges across England and run the UK's only specialist service for survivors of technology-facilitated and economic abuse.
In England and Wales, 1 in 4 women will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime, and on average, 1 woman every 5 days is murdered by their current or former partner.
Our life-changing services support thousands of survivors, helping them to overcome the physical, emotional, financial, and logistical impacts of abuse and help rebuild their lives. Every two minutes someone turns to Refuge for help. Your support will help us to continue to be a lifeline for survivors escaping domestic abuse.
Our mission is to create a world where domestic abuse is not tolerated and where women and children can live safely - free from fear.
