Five people decide to get married. To each other. Sort of.

But how do you build a wedding when the rules don’t quite fit?

The Radical Wedding Engine is a playful experiment in marriage, chosen family and artistic partnership. Five East Asian migrant artists who have worked together for years take the wedding apart and put it back together again — testing vows, rituals, traditions and expectations along the way.

What happens when an artistic partnership starts to look like a marriage? Can a wedding celebrate friendship, collaboration and chosen family? And what might commitment look like beyond the couple?

Moving between sincerity and absurdity, intimacy and spectacle, they explore different ways of caring, committing and belonging, while attempting to build a ceremony of their own.

Developed through The Yard Theatre’s Live Drafts programme and a Making Space residency at Battersea Arts Centre.
