NIGHTINGALISH

After the unexpected success of her first play, Chinese playwright Leanne finds herself unable to write again. Between poetry nights, comedy nights, rehearsals, she searches for a story worth telling while navigating questions of identity, intimacy, authorship and belonging as an immigrant in contemporary Britain.
As memories, fantasies and fragments of unfinished writing begin to bleed into everyday life, the boundary between lived experience and artistic invention gradually dissolves. Friends become characters, lovers become stories, and every encounter becomes potential material. Faced with the expectations of mentors, collaborators and her own relentless imagination, Leanne must decide whether she is willing to turn her life into art—and what that transformation might cost.
Both funny and unsettling, the play explores creativity, intimacy, cultural identity and the uneasy ethics of using real people as inspiration.

New Stuff usually finishes at approximately 8pm, but we welcome all to join us for continued conversations in the bar downstairs.
Tickets are strictly limited, so booking in advance is highly recommended. Please note that the event takes place in one of our studio spaces, which is only accessible up a spiral staircase.
