SAFETY NET

Safety Net is a one-act dark comedy set in a GP surgery, following a hectic day in the life of Tim, a nurse practitioner handling back-to-back telephone consultations. Through a series of often absurd, sometimes poignant patient interactions, the play highlights the pressures of modern healthcare, where efficiency and remote triage clash with the messy realities of human need.
As Tim deals with everything from trivial complaints and misunderstandings to genuine emergencies, his impatience and cynicism are gradually balanced by moments of empathy—particularly with vulnerable or grieving patients. Alongside the humour, the play reveals deeper themes: burnout, the limitations of a strained system, and the importance of emotional connection in care.
By the end, Tim’s own personal struggles surface, suggesting that even those providing the “safety net” are themselves in need of support.

New Stuff finishes at approximately 7.45pm, but we welcome all to join us for continued conversations in the bar downstairs.
Tickets are strictly limited, so booking in advance is highly recommended. Please note that the event takes place in one of our studio spaces, which is only accessible up a spiral staircase.
