Presented by Kamila CK Artist
An interdisciplinary solo performance featuring live painting, aerial hoop dance and moving image projection.
Using the symbolism of the circle, the work celebrates the life force that holds us up and gives us momentum to move, think, live and create. Invisible, infinite energy.
It also explores duality of human existence; higher and lower, light and shadow, our sense of connection to oneself, others, and the world, as well as our illusion of separation.
Integrated into the performance is live Japanese Enso painting at a large scale. This allows the human body to move within the shape bringing together the choreographic and visual practices.
Enso painting is a spiritual practice where the iconic circular symbol is painted in one masterstroke, one breath and no corrections afterwards. The practice gives form to the flow of the energy in the moment, making invisible synchronicities visible.
Symbolically, the iconic Zen circle represents the circle of life, unity and connection to all existence.
In the final scene, the performer pours colour from above onto the Enso, the organic flow tracing the spinning hoop and translating motion directly onto the canvas.
Each performance will finish with a live Q&A and a discussion with the artist lead by actor Caroline Partridge.
The artwork will remain on stage afterwards to see up close and will go on display & sale as part of simultaneous Kamila CK’s solo exhibition with Firepit Gallery, London .
TRAILER:
2026 marks an important moment in the work’s evolution - the performance is programmed in dialogue with Kamila CK’s solo visual exhibition at Firepit Art Gallery and part of UK Mental Health Week in London.
The first iteration of the work premiered in 2024 at Cockpit Theatre as part of Camden Fringe and received critical acclaim for its innovative and meditative approach by Obscurity and Everything Theatre. Following further development, it was performed in Lincoln Arts Centre in a short 20min format including audience Q&A and written feedback.
This year’s third iteration features new original music created with Brazilian composer for dance Divan Gattamorta and visual images reworked in collaboration with Noel Jones, British visual artist for dance.
The exhibition at Firepit Gallery, North Greenwich 13.05- 6.6. 2026 will support the performance by showing Kamila's wider visual practice in response to Enso philosophy and the theme of interconnectivity — exploring emotional and mental wellbeing and reconnecting visitors to themselves, others, and the world. This will allow audiences to engage with artist’s practice more holistically and for longer than a one-off performance.
