Mali Sheard's Homestead [EMERGENCE]

137 - @one_three_seven_music
137 is a brand new band featuring Adrian Utley (Portishead), Larry Stabbins (Jerry Dammers, Peter Brotzmann, Robert Wyatt), Seb Rochford (Polar Bear) and Jim Barr (Portishead, Radiohead). Playing mostly improvised music, and deftly navigating a space between fierceness and sensitivity, the four musicians (and friends) have created a dialogue of singular voices that converse and battle with extraordinary fluency, an openness to listening, and a miraculously shared sense of evolving form. Their album “Strangeness Oscillation” is out now on Noetic Records.

Iain Ballamy [solo]
ECM recording artist Iain Ballamy is internationally recognised as a saxophonist and composer. He has been described variously as urbane, original, melodic, freethinking and uncompromising. Listed in the BBC’s publication ‘100 Jazz Greats’ between Count Basie and Chet Baker his work is contemporary with both strong jazz and classical references and yet un-encumbered by formality and tradition. Over 3 decades spent transcending musical genres and stereotypes and gradually forging strong and ongoing relationships with musicians around the globe, Ballamy has worked with many cutting-edge figures of today’s contemporary jazz scene. Career highlights include playing with Loose Tubes, Bill Bruford’s Earthworks, Hermeto Pascoal, Django Bates, Kenny Werner, Gil Evans, George Coleman, Cedar Walton, The Karnataka College of Percussion, John Taylor, Ian Shaw, Claire Martin, The Britten Sinfonia, Gay Dad, Everything but the Girl, Mike Gibbs, Carla Bley, John Dankworth etc. As an educator, Ballamy currently is visiting professor at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and The Royal Academy of Music who made him Hon ARAM in 2014.
Mali Sheard's Homestead [EMERGENCE] - @_homestead_band

Homestead is a contemporary jazz quintet fronted by saxophonist and composer Mali Sheard. In addition to her fondness for the Great American Songbook, she also draws inspiration from alto sax legends such as Phil Woods, Paul Desmond and Cannonball Adderley. The great vocalists that have heavily influenced her songwriting include Frank Sinatra, Blossom Dearie and James Taylor. As a bandleader as well as a sidewoman, Mali has already performed at prestigious events and venues such as Love Supreme Festival, We Out Here Festival, Rye Jazz Festival, Ronnie Scott’s, Queen Elizabeth Hall and Dizzy’s Club at Lincoln Center in New York.
