Produced and presented by The MM Company
Rupert and Alex are in love, messy, funny, ordinary love. They build a life together one small moment at a time: breakfasts, arguments, private jokes, plans for the future. When the unthinkable happens, they’re forced to navigate grief, difference, and the fragile ways we try to hold on to each other.
Anything Is Possible If You Think About It Hard Enough is a tender, honest, and surprisingly funny play about love, connection, and hope - how we build a life with someone, and how we keep living when that life changes shape.
Cordelia O'Neill's play was first presented by Small Things Theatre at Southwark Playhouse, London, in September 2021, and won the Best New Play award at the 2022 Offies (Off West End Awards).
"The old ones are the best, so they say. And it’s true: all art, and drama in particular, needs to show us familiar, relatable things before surprising us by reflecting them in a new light. This excellent relationship play is a perfect example of an instantly recognisable situation played out with real theatrical expertise... Cordelia O'Neill's script brims with insight, compassion, and a lot of laughs, even during Alex and Rupert’s darkest hours. She’s created a thoroughly believable relationship with two rounded characters, both of whom are a mix of numerous conflicting and contrasting traits... superb."
Everything Theatre
"Cordelia O'Neill's superb two-hander... an intense evening, yet one laced with defiant humour... O'Neill has given us something raw and authentic."
The Times
"O’Neill’s script fizzes with delightful moments [and] captures a sense of grief, loss and acceptance that lingers ... But O'Neill is wise enough to not completely abandon humour altogether; even in the darkest moments, we crack jokes to take the edge off the pain, and that is captured so well here. The path back to normality is trodden carefully, lightly, but with deliberate care."
