Starting A Company

This event is part of:

Who could benefit from this course?
Are you producing your own work and running into practical issues around finance, insurance, and liability? It could be time to consider starting a company. This course is for theatre makers, creative producers, and collectives who want to create an infrastructure to support their productions.

How does it work?
In this two hour workshop on Zoom, theatre maker & creative producer Amy Clare Tasker will cover the basics of setting up a company:

  • Knowing when it’s time to set up a company
  • How to choose your company structure
  • What you need in order to register a company
  • Legal obligations to Companies House and HMRC
  • Paying your collaborators and yourself
  • Practical advice on insurance, bookkeeping, and bank accounts

The most common structure for theatre is a company limited by guarantee, and this is also where Amy’s direct experience lies. This workshop will touch on other structures including companies limited by shares, and community interest companies, but mainly focus on companies limited by guarantee.

What do you gain?
By the end of the workshop, you will have a basic understanding of your next steps in creating your company, resources for further information, and the confidence to get started.
