Monthly Scratch Nights

Produced and presented byThe Cockpit as part of Theatre Maker

THEATRE IN THE POUND

16 March, 7:00 pm

A not-for-profit scratch night, designed for individuals or groups of performers to try out 10-15 minutes of new work at The Cockpit.

Coming up this month:

POOR LITTLE JAZZ RAT by Tae Catford

A solo play about falling in love with jazz music. Sharing real-life experiences and playing some classic jazz tunes, the protagonist tries to make sense of growing up in the suburbs of Essex, the magic of Harlem, Miles Davis, having a bass player for a father and addiction.

WHEN THE VOICE TURNS by Sheelan Mishwar

When the Voice Turns explores how power operates through intimacy — shaping behaviour before it is recognised as control. Weaving mythology with lived experience, the piece examines transgenerational shame and the subtle repressions hidden within tradition, reverence, and care. Grounded in breath and weight, the movement begins close to the earth before reaching outward — toward expansion and relation. Traditional forms are quietly subverted, and protest emerges through the act of being witnessed

OSWALD by Honey Smith

A humorous exploration of mental health and how to “get on with it”. Resolutions, regrets and ridiculous anecdotes, will 2026 be the year or will Oswald win?

LIFE WOULD BE PRETTY DULL WITHOUT SEX, RAVES AND MDMA by Sarah Asante Gregory and Bex Wall

Meet Bex, a fortysomething woman struggling with expectations. A twist of fate, she rejects safe and abandons herself to life. Consequences be damned, embracing a reality that’s messy, exhilarating, cruel and wild. Showing you the world through her imperfect lens of love, loss and heartbreak, so you can make the leap and live intentionally – whatever that means. A rip-roaring, naughty, funny tale that will have you laughing into the dark.
