Sharp Little Bones featuring Tony Kofi @sharplittlebones
"Finding the right musical direction, the right musicians, sounding original, authentic and, an often-overlooked ingredient, having a desire to communicate: Sharp Little Bones ticks all those boxes.” - Stuart Nicholson, Jazzwise

Sharp Little Bones present Step Up! Get Down!, their second album of original music. Created from a shared desire to write and perform music that is unmistakably their own, the recording brings together memorable melodies, infectious grooves and adventurous improvisation. Featuring bassist and composer Simon Paterson, drummer Andrew "Woody" Wood, keyboardist Paul Deats and tenor saxophonist Tony Kofi, the quartet performs eleven compositions by Paterson drawing on today's thriving UK jazz scene whilst embracing influences ranging from Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and Miles Davis to South American and African rhythmic traditions.

Opening track 'Trent Fields' combines an earthy groove with memorable hooks, while the title track reflects Herbie Hancock's celebrated balance of groove, melody and harmony. 'Sola Mento' explores South American and African-inspired rhythms, 'Dream Capture' blends a Latin-influenced electric bass riff with a spiritual atmosphere and 'Snake Oil' juxtaposes hard swing with deep funk. 'Brie en Croute' reflects Wayne Shorter's approach to composition, 'Hook Up' is driven by complex compound metres, and 'Portman Pie' develops Miles Davis-inspired melodic ideas before moving into a spontaneous outro reminiscent of John Martyn and Danny Thompson. The album concludes with ‘Lucidity’, an uplifting finale inspired by the energy of Ezra Collective.

"For me, composing, arranging, performing, recording, producing and mastering are all part of the same creative process,” says Paterson. “Being able to follow an idea from its very first spark through to the finished record is incredibly rewarding, and I'm especially proud of what we've created with Step Up! Get Down!"

Dominic Ingham + Jay Verma (duo) @dominic_ingham + @jay.verma
Violinist and vocalist Dominic Ingham and pianist Jay Verma bring a fresh perspective to the classic violin-and-piano duo, performing a seamless blend of jazz, Scottish and Irish folk, and ‘modern-day lullabies’ (Jazz Mann).

Yorkshire-born violinist and vocalist Dominic Ingham is ‘fast establishing himself as one of the UK’s leading proponents of jazz violin’ (Jazzwise), following the release of his critically acclaimed debut album Role Models. The record presents a compelling suite of lucidly crafted, characterful pieces that showcase Dominic’s distinctive and highly personal style, deeply rooted in folk and classical traditions. He has toured extensively across the UK with his quartet, performing at renowned venues and festivals including Ronnie Scott’s, Love Supreme, the Royal Albert Hall, and the EFG London Jazz Festival. Recent collaborations include Emma Rawicz, Trish Clowes, and Elliot Galvin. In 2020, Dominic was nominated for a Parliamentary Jazz Award for Jazz Newcomer and was a finalist in the prestigious Zbigniew Seifert International Jazz Violin Competition. He currently teaches jazz violin at Chetham’s School of Music and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

Jay Verma is a distinguished pianist and composer based in London. Known for his deep sensitivity to harmony and his distinctive blend of influences drawn from Jazz, Folk, Romantic, and Film music, Jay brings a uniquely personal voice to the instrument. He has performed, toured, and recorded with acclaimed artists including Ganavya, Sault, Cleo Sol, Immanuel Wilkins, and Sam Amidon, among others.

Guesde [EMERGENCE] @guesdecollective
'Guesde (pronounced “gesht”) are a North London jazz fusion band blending Indian classical music, jazz, and London sounds like drum & bass and grime into something raw and unique. At the centre of what Guesde does is experimentation - keeping the energy of rehearsal alive in performance, where things can shift, stretch, or fall apart completely, driving sounds through a live effects processing unit that takes sound in real time and mangles it into something new. Their live shows lean into performance art, featuring mirror masks made by artist Freddie Yauner. Their influences span the legacies of Shakti, King Crimson, Arthur Russell and Wayne Shorter, while also pulling from contemporary artists like Dijon, Wayne Krantz, and Tigran Hamasyan. They’ve been played on Maria Grapsa’s East of the Sun on One Jazz Radio and by Karl Bos on Soho Radio, and have performed at venues including MAP Studio Cafe, Hampstead Jazz Club, and The Elephant’s Head.
