'Guesde (pronounced “gesht”) are a North London jazz fusion band blending Indian classical music, jazz, and London sounds like drum & bass and grime into something raw and unique. At the centre of what Guesde does is experimentation - keeping the energy of rehearsal alive in performance, where things can shift, stretch, or fall apart completely, driving sounds through a live effects processing unit that takes sound in real time and mangles it into something new. Their live shows lean into performance art, featuring mirror masks made by artist Freddie Yauner. Their influences span the legacies of Shakti, King Crimson, Arthur Russell and Wayne Shorter, while also pulling from contemporary artists like Dijon, Wayne Krantz, and Tigran Hamasyan. They’ve been played on Maria Grapsa’s East of the Sun on One Jazz Radio and by Karl Bos on Soho Radio, and have performed at venues including MAP Studio Cafe, Hampstead Jazz Club, and The Elephant’s Head.
