Fringe RE: Vlution: Let's Begin!
Our inaugral conference on the present and future of Fringe Theatre
Saturday 29 November
10:10 am - 4:30 pm
Is Fringe Theatre in trouble?
With The Stage reporting on the “uphill struggles” in Edinburgh over the summer, uncertainty around the future of ACE funding and the recent closure of prominent London venues and festivals, should we be sounding the alarm? Or is this all a perception problem? London Fringe Theatre Makers are made of strong stuff. We continue to survive and display our art. But is it time for us to fight back more strategically against this narrative of decline? Should we be coming together to get battle-ready for the challenges coming over the hill in the second quarter of the 21st century? Can we, collectively, combine our expertise and figure out how to evolve the capital’s Fringe Theatre community to be future-ready?
That’s what we intend to find out at Fringe REvolution - A series of one-day conferences on the present and future of London Fringe Theatre.
This conference will be presented in two halves:
In the morning, we will hear invited speakers talking about the current state of Fringe Theatre. Speakers will include members of the government, PR professionals, theatre operators, and press.
In the afternoon, we will have a guided discussion about the future of Fringe. This will focus on the change we would like to see in the industry, what we can do, and the support we would like from other organisations. Topics may include finance, public relations, and how we would like to present ourselves as London Fringe Theatre/s.
Ultimately, this conference should result in action points for a manifesto that can help guide the direction of the fringe space in terms of public presentation, marketing, and coverage.
This event will be curated and moderated to keep discussions moving forward and topical. For the afternoon session, we would very much like to hear from Theatre Makers with ideas on discussion points.
Tickets are free by request or invitation only. If you wish to attend, please fill in the form by clicking on the ticket link.
